Living in a forest as I do it is inevitable that trees die and must be cleared away if near the house. In the deep woods I may take a dead tree down to prevent damage to other trees but I leave the remains there to return to the earth. These stumps are close to the deck overlooking the pond. I loved the variety of textures and combination of both muted and brilliant colors. This was a most interesting piece to paint.
