Sundial

Early in spring these small canadian may flowers appear in our woods. They've always reminded me a bit of grape hyacinth though their blossoms are not as tightly clustered. I was lucky to spot this particular bloom when the sun light was brilliant. The cast shadow immediately made me think of a sundial - a nature's sundial. I love the contrast between the lush new greens of spring against the brittle, fading colors of last autumn's leaves. The decaying branch added another textural element to the composition.
